People with disabilities do not need sympathy or pity. They also don't need to be told that they are brave or courageous for living with a disability. Some young people with disabilities are brave, some are not, just like everyone else. People with disabilities do not need to be treated as children, they need opportunities to maximise their independence.

Cerebral Palsy - a Guide for Care, written by Miller, Bachrach. It gives a very good account of what Cerebral Palsy is all about.

 

Netdoctor.co.uk - A general site for all medical conditions. There is a section on attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) – ‘zenfant hyperactive’. 

 

The National Attention Deficit Disorder Information & Support Services - covers a range of resources and information about all aspects of ADHD and associated conditions.

 

Cafamily.org.uk -  provides useful information and there is a helpline by e-mail, where people can explain their difficulties and ask for advice.

 

Specialfamilies.com -  is a small independent practice in psychotherapy with experienced, dedicated psychotherapists and licensed psychologists.  

  

Down Syndrome Association in UK - excellent for giving

info especially when the condition has been newly diagnosed.

 

Down's Heart Group in UK - a charity offering support

and info relating to heart conditions associated

with Down's Syndrome.
